May 2009

First of all we are super proud to announce a joint venture with local artist Lisa Max. We have been stocking Lisa's toys and pillows for a couple of months and we have just released a limited edition jersey scarf with Lisa's cat and owl artwork printed on both ends. Art you can wear around your neck! We are really excited to see what we can create together in the future.

Berserk is a clothing label from Karen Bjornenak in Melbourne. Karen also co-owns the great Cat's Meow boutique in the Campbell Arcade in Melbourne's city. Her clothing is cut beautifully with great details. We also love that she only does limited runs of her designs so you really have to snap them up when you see them. We've almost already sold out of her black and white swallow printed skirt but we have just got in a size range of the new red ones with black swallow print.

We do love our brooches here and when mutual friend Laura Miller pointed Sniffle Co in our direction, we couldn't have been more pleased. Bowling pins, ghosts and Woody Allen are all tops motifs for decorating your chest, we think. Here's an interview with Sniffle Co's
creator John Patterson -
http://craft-victoria.blogspot.com/2009/05/introducing-john-patterson-of-sniffle.html

We're always being asked about bags suitable for guys and when we found screen printed canvas knapsack bags from New Orleans based Happy Family, we knew we were on a winner! It's hard to pick a favourite but personally, we're keen on the dinosaur and Diana camera prints.

Feel like a new dress for winter? Just a sample of our current range includes a strapless 50s red and white stripe number from Peta Pledger, denim ruffled minis from Nooworks, woollen plaid a-lines from Gentle Fawn or fancy black silk with a bow shifts from Secret Squirrel. Come in and see what else we have in store for you!

We also have some more polaroid film due to arrive any day now. Our last lot went so fast we missed out on buying any for ourselves! We've ordered some extra this time but if you'd like any held for you email us at info@ruckrover.com.au and we will sort you out.

March 2009

First we'd better let you know that Ruck Rover FOOTY TIPPING is back for 2009! The leading tipster at the end of the home and away season will once again win a $50 voucher to be used in the store. Follow this link to join the competition. Those of you who were members last year won't have to rejoin, all you have to do is reactivate your footytips.com.au membership by logging in and that's it!

Now, we are happy to introduce new menswear label Malmo. This is the new project of Fredrik Jonsson, one half of the much loved Hem & Haw duo. We know a lot of you were sad to hear of the end of Hem & Haw, but now you can be happy that there is a new label bringing out men's
shirts with super great cuts and in great fabrics.

Those of you who came shopping for men's tees before Christmas probably noticed the awesome range of prints from Slow Loris. Well, we've just received another delivery from them with some new designs and boy are they excellent! We reckon the best is the Top Gun inspired print... or maybe the engine diagram one. So good!

The new Heavy Rotation delivery has arrived and is selling like hotcakes! All those Holga lovers out there (of which we are two!) will dig the camera tees they have done in women's and men's cuts.

We are also stocked up on those lovely bags from Little Odd Forest! As usual all the fabrics used are a surprise, so no two bags are alike.

Oooooh we are also really excited about the latest drop from Melbourne favourite Tomorrow Never Knows. Check out the women's tees, singlets and hoodies and the men's tees and warm gear.

After being featured on the super awesome Michi Girl blog (http://michigirl.com/newsletter/world/1485/januhairy/), the Mr Moustache tote sold out so fast! So for those of you who missed out, get in quick because we have a small re-stock of those brilliant bags from Sirena con Jersey in Spain. You can find them in store, or you can find them here. They totally rule.

Okay what else is new... oh we some news to pass on, our much loved friends from Tasmania Small Rhino are producing jewellery no more! The pair have decided to go their separate ways and both have split from Hobart. This means any stock we have at the moment is that we'll ever
have! Whaaah! We did do an order of all pieces from their most recent range of deco bow brooches and necklaces as well as restocking the ever popular deco bird brooches. If you've had your eye on these before, don't miss out on snapping one up before they all go.

Right, that's all for the moment. Come visit us soon please!

We've collated all the best bits of our store for your perusal in cyberspace, from all the new men's tees, to lots of our jewellery, bags, stationery and women's clothing too! We hope you have as much fun shopping at Ruck Rover online as you do in our brick and mortar store. We will be adding new items all the time as we get deliveries. Oooh we are really excited! You can find the shop here.

October 2008

Hello again!

Well October has been a busy month of arrivals so far, which means the freshest of fresh goodies for your perusal are now in store.

Yesterday afternoon saw the arrival of the long-awaited new range from Gentle Fawn. It is a well-loved label here at Ruck Rover and the new items will not disappoint. As usual we only have limited stock, so get in quick to snap up something new.

If you've ever admired the wooden tree on our jewellery cabinet you'll recognise the owl in Princess Tina's new range of wooden brooches! There's also a fox, ladybird cameo and a beautifully detailed penny farthing to choose from. But we're betting those owls are going to sell like the hottest of hot hotcakes.

Princess Tina has been a favourite label of ours since before we even opened the shop. We are sad to hear that this season will be the last from Beci Orpin under this name before she moves onto new ventures. So once the new season stock arrives it will be the last time you'll be able to get your mitts on super cool Princess Tina clothing, accessories and jewellery.

There's also new jewellery A Skulk of Foxes, new Limedrop wooden jewellery, 31 Corn Lane has a new range of bags and Mingus have re-stocked us with purses too! Phew!

We also have several new labels to tell you about...

Maru makes incredible graphic jewellery and we have stocked up big time on their wooden pins. We're especially fond of the Australian animals, it's great to see a cocky and a roo in amongst the usual swallows, rabbits and cats. Maru also have a clothing line and we have their beautiful pleated pocket dresses in right now, as well as some stripey tees in grey, black and red that would look fab under a pinafore style dress.

Last of all, we're pleased to welcome Meringue to the fold! We've stocked up on some gorgeous pleated wristlet bags all in different fabrics both vintage and modern. These are great thing to have for all those summer parties and events, they'll fit all your essentials in!

In the next few weeks we're expecting so much more new stock from old favourites like Heavy Rotation and Poketo as well as a brand, spanking new (for us) menswear label called Brown Sound from the US. We will be seriously overflowing with the best button-up shirts in Perth, don't you worry!

August 2008

Well it's been a while since we updated you with Ruck Rover news. We've been hard at work finding new and interesting labels for you from all over the world and rearranging the store to fit the new things in!

First of all...

SALE!!!! We have decided to mark down a heap of items. A host of women's tees have been marked down to $30 each or 2 for $40. We have also been really ruthless with a heap of boys' shirts, hoodies and tees. Most sale items are between $20 and $40 so come down and grab a bargain while you can! To top it off we have a $10 bowl full of fun
bits and pieces. Yowza!

We just had a new delivery of Heavy Rotation men's and women's tees arrive just this morning. We know how popular these tees are with so many of our customers for their great fit and comfy feel. The new prints are great and won't hang around long!

We're super pleased to be able to stock jewellery from Kim Williamson of Dotty Speck in Seattle. We have a selection of her handmade silver necklaces. They're beautiful pieces and include rain cloud, wishbone, bird and leaf motifs.

Also freshly stocked are men's tee shirts from Isotope. To quote from their bio,
"Isotope is a quirky and creative t shirt collective that designs and prints garments in a renovated 1920s Bank building in North Central Illinois. We're drawn to many aesthetics, but have been on a 20th Century science kick as of late. Anything transit related we find beautiful - especially maps. We've been screen printing for years and enjoy coming up with esoteric shirts that are visually interesting." They've received a great response so far!

We have also had a fresh delivery from Queen Bee and are stocked up on the 7" record bags in various colours, as well as the ever popular wonder wallets. We have also found out that this style of wallet is discontinued! So if you are a fan looking for a new image, or if you have been thinking about getting one, this is the time for you to come
and pick one up.

The latest addition to the Ruck Rover family is US label Pinecone & Chickadee. Their tees, baby clothes and stationery fit into the shop so perfectly!

Emma at Moe Moe has come up with a brand new range of necklaces and earrings. There is one with a paper plane, another with a stag, a cute birdhouse and bird features on another, and heaps more.

Something super exciting is the addition of Lazy Oaf to the store. This label comes from their shop of the same name in Kingly Court, Carnaby Street, which we think is definitely the coolest store in London. Men's tees feature hot dogs, monsters and multilingual greetings and the girls' prints are of doughnuts, boom boxes, Parisian and sailor themes and swallows. They also do an awesome enamel camera necklace, monster brooch and badge sets. Oh my goodness, so fun!!!

Another favourite thing of ours is a series of fabric bags from Peace & Quiet printed with a woodgrain print! They come in two colours - pine and teak (cute!) - and various sizes. They also do woodgrain tees for both men and women.

Time for us to go and finish tagging the sale items. We hope to see you soon! xx

March 2008

Wow, for the last month we have been getting new stock drops left, right and centre!

We're very pleased to have new Princess Tina tees and jewellery in store and the rest of the range is due in soon!

Small Rhino in Tasmania delivered some awesome new jewellery to us this month. Their range includes some beautiful deco bird brooches and silver, wood and acrylic necklaces.

On the bag front we have the new designs from 31 Corn Lane. We love this label - they are sisters too! The current theme is hot air ballooning and there are three new bags and a cute necklace.

We are once again stocked up on MM/MG stationery and this time we got 5 styles of their coffee mugs too! They are so fun.

The new Limedrop range arrived yesterday, including the men's straight leg jeans. These look awesome with the cuff folded up and one of their bear face tees. Or team them with a checkered shirt from Revival, or one of Melbourne artist Dylan Martorell's new tee prints which are out under his label Outskirts. For the girls we have a great blue on blue heart print that reads run away, in Limedrop's classic U neck style.

Yesterday's post also brought our first ever order from Secret Squirrel! This small Sydney label has some serious fans in Perth. We have some tops, tees and skirts for the ladies and tees and hoodies for the gents, with simple but different prints.

Since its arrival earlier this month, Gentle Fawn items have been selling like hotcakes! We only ordered one of each size but we fell in love with so many different designs, that the racks are still bursting with the awesome styles. There are a stack of dresses, simple printed singlets and tees, cardigans, knit tops and a heap of different shirts and tanks in classic fits using awesome fabrics. Make sure you pop in before they all go. This is the first time Gentle Fawn have distributed to Australia since 2006 (we opened with the last range that saw Australian shores) and we are the only Perth store carrying this line. You won't be disappointed!

Now that the nights are cooling down a bit, it is perfect timing for the addition of Melbourne womenswear label Sunday Morning. We are carrying four of their tops with 3/4 length sleeves. Our favourite is the navy one with blue and white striped sleeves.

Also just in is the new delivery of wallets and tees from Poketo in LA. This range features artwork from Lisa Congdon, Camilla Engman and DGPH amongst others!

Hope to see you soon!

February 2008

The last few weeks have seen a heap of new stock arrive. First came some new tee designs from Nooworks. Claire spoke with designer Jen today who is finishing up her next catalogue and it sounds excellent! So this current range won't be around for long, get in quick before they all go!

We also received three massive boxes from Dangerfield, Revival and their new sister label Black Friday. Our favourite items are super cute cotton skirts with pockets and some flocked blouses. RRGS hearts flocking!

For the crafty types, we have just got in a range of fabric buttons from local label Luii. Designer Janice uses the cutest fabrics (the same stuff she makes her adorable bags out of) including cherries, sausage dogs, mushrooms, sailing ships and hedgehogs. As well as using them on clothes, you could sew them onto plain bags or hats. We have also got some more Luii tote bags and clutches. There are a few new styles including the Lydia clutch - a very nicely sized purse perfect for a day out with friends or a night on the town. They are roomy enough to fit all the important stuff, but not too big to get in the way. Something we always find ourselves remarking on is the quality of Janice's stuff, each item is completely flawless! It's a joy to be able to sell her items.

Ah, here is the Fed Ex man! He has just dropped off two huge boxes of the new Heavy Rotation tees. We can't wait to open them - we recall ordering some super prints. And they have a new style of top for the girls too! It's gathered around the neck and has a cap sleeve. Okay, we are going to go unpack those boxes now! xx

Happy New Year Everybody!

We are back open after having a little rest over the Christmas and new year period! Opening hours have now returned to normal.

So far this week we have received some new womenswear from Canadian label OK47 and a range of handmade bags from Little Odd Forest in Singapore. There will be lots more stock arriving in the next month!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a great start to 2008! See you soon!

December 2007

Wow it's December already and Christmas is just around the corner. Hooray! Time for lots of summer festivities, heaps of luscious foodand drink and loads of super cool summer clothes!

We just got in some really cute Dangerfield dresses, perfect for a day out in the sun and then slip on a cardi and some fancy shoes and it will carry you through the night.

We have a couple of new labels in ready for the Christmas season as well. Check out the Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tees from Burger & Friends. The Texan label also does really cool wallets.

The latest additions to the jewellery cabinet are two very different labels. A Skulk of Foxes is a range of handmade silver jewellery from Melbourne. Designer Natalie makes beautiful necklaces, brooches and earrings, our favourite item being a pair of deer antler studs. So if you need an extra special gift for someone definitely keep this label in mind. The other new jewellery comes from Elsiebelle in London. Fun chains and earrings are modern twists on classic styles. Come and see the lovely brass envelope necklace complete with I love you letter in side.
Great new mens and womens tees have come in from small San Francisco label Nooworks. The current range includes images of cosy cabins and cute cuckoo clocks for the girls, and animal sketches for the boys. Ruck Rover is the only place in WA youll be able to find these great pieces too!

We have also received a heap of new stationery from MM/MG. There are really awesome cards for all occasions, new photo albums and blank journals too. We've also got a great range of planners and diaries in different sizes, making perfect Christmas presents. This delivery saw the return of the capsule letters which are great little stocking fillers.

We are incredibly excited to be able to introduce a collaboration with Brisbane jewellery label Moe Moe. We have joined forces to bring you two new necklaces and two new earring designs. One features our little bird and the other is a red and blue pattern based on our window designs. They are so cute!

I know a few of you have been waiting with baited breath for the Hem & Haw jeans to arrive. Well, they have finally made it, with straight leg styles for men and women, made from a great quality denim.

We hope you can visit us soon!

May 2007

Hi everyone!

We hope that you are all well and happy. To make you feel even better we are going to have a bit of a sale! Starting Saturday 5th May and finishing the following Sunday 13th May, we are going to reduce certain items by either 20% or 40%. We are being quite ruthless so you are bound to find something you love for a bargain!

We also popped over to Melbourne over Easter to pick up some great new gear!

The latest Princess Tina range is really awesome. The motifs include axes, mushrooms and babushkas. The four single earrings this time around are an angry tooth, rabbit head, an axe and a rainbow. They are going fast though. There are also some new brooches, bags, a smock, a shirt and some shorts, with some more to follow soon.

We also visited the boys at Bobby's Cuts and got ourselves some more of their Hem & Haw label. There are styles for both the ladies and the lads so come on in and check out this super cool yet totally affordable range. No piece is over $90!

Last week saw the arrival of new tees from Heavy Rotation. There is a new 3D print - this one is of the Loch Ness Monster!

On the jewellery front, we have just started stocking Moe Moe necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Frankie readers might have seen her stuff featured in the February/March Issue - that is where we fell in love with it!

We finally got some sunglasses in too and they are all just $30. Awesome huh?

And there has been so much Dangerfield and Revival winter stuff arrive too. It has been moving fast though so you will have to get in quick. The latest is a duffle coat for the girls which comes in both olive and charcoal, and it has a removable hood too!

If you can't make it in but know there is something you have been hanging out for, just give us a call or send us an email and we will put it aside for you or answer any of your questions. We are also happy to take phone / internet sales for those of you unable to get down no matter where you are in the world, so let us know if there is anything you need!

XO - Ruck Rover

Just a quickie update to let you know that even though it's still warm and summery here in Perth, our winter stock is starting to arrive from all over the place. Rad!

January 2007

Well here we are in the new year and we've got lots of exciting new stock to tell you all about!

We've had big deliveries of jewellery from Classic Hardware and Lady Luck Rules OK. We love the Classic Hardware pieces using reproduction bakelite - so awesome! And the Lady Luck items feature such cute and colourful charms, you'll love them!
We have a great t-shirt label in the store at the moment which really flew out the door at Christmas time - Heavy Rotation from the US. They're actually based in Milwaukee, MI - famous for great beer, Happy Days and great music. C'mon, both the Violent Femmes and Liberace are from Milwaukee!

Check out the super-rocking 3-D shirt! Yes it does come with your own pair of glasses.

Anyhow, Heavy Rotation make awesome tees for guys and girls, they've been really popular and we're the only stockist in all of Australia at the moment (shh, don't tell any other stores about them!) so you better get in soon if you wanna pick one up!

Another great tee-shirt label we got in recently is Young Lovers from Sydney. They do limited edition runs of only 100 of their men's shirts (and only 20 of the girls versions, if any) so we're really pleased that we snagged a bunch.

If you can resist snapping up one of these totally awesome Degrassi Jr High prints, then you've got more will power than either of us!We're super excited about the delivery we got yesterday - a box all the way from Korea and the Millimeter/Milligram stationery company. We are both stationery freaks and we just had to get some of their awesome stuff, notebooks, drawing books, photo albums, capsule letters, diaries and even these rad tote bags!

Oh and one last thing - if you're in Perth and going to the RTRfm quiz night, try extra hard because you might win a Ruck Rover gift voucher. How cool would that be? We'll see you there!

November 2006

New Stock!
We just received a new batch of super-awesome tees from Modern Planet, a t-shirt label from NYC. We got a few more headphones and reel-to-reel designs plus some new ones - robots, 8mm camera, guitars and bike. Come in and buy one because they rule. A nice big package from Poketo arrived with a whole slew of their cool shirts from guys (and girls this time), some more limited edition wallets, a great canvas messenger bag in two sizes, blank books and even some computer keyboard themed reminder magnets, a perfect Christmas gift for the organised geek in your life.
Also new is the biology inspired tees, badges and stickers from the lovely I Heart Guts! You'll have to come and see them for yourself to appreciate the true genius of their awesomeness! We love our guts!

October 2006

Well we're finally open, hurray! A big thanks to everyone who graced us with their presence at our launch party this week. We had lots of fun after we got over the stress of throwing a party! A big thanks to all our friends who helped out but especially to Jessie and Charlotte for tending the bar for us.

In other news, we are also very pleased to announce the arrival of 31 Corn Lane bags, wallets and belts to our store. We have been long time admirers of the Sperber Sisters and their awesome bags so it's great to now have them to sell!

Also freshly in stock is the new range of Princess Tina! It's probably our favourite label in the store so you should all come down and check out Beci Orpin's fantastic clothing, bags and brilliant jewellery. Ok?

October 2006

Well it's been a long time since we've updated this website but that's because we've been super busy doing stuff like getting our store ready to open!

Things are coming along pretty well. Now our store looks like this - all blue and red and full of light globes. We think it is quite pretty and hope you agree! We had a lovely electrician named Michael to do all the sparky stuff. If you need an electrician let us know, we totally recommend him.

Today we're finishing up painting our change rooms and storage room that were built for us by a couple of lovely carpenters named Chris and Gordon. They rock!

Anyhow, all we have to do after that is get our furniture in and stock the shop! We'll be open by Friday kids, so come on in and have a look for yourself!

Love, Ruck Rover

July 2006

Welcome to our brand new website! We don't have much news for now as our shop isn't quite open yet!

We are getting the keys to the store today and then we have to do the fit out. Hopefully this won't take too long and then we will be ready to sell you our wares. And what fine wares they are too.
Here's a photo of what the shop looks like at the moment:

Soon it will look quite different. Well not that much different. There will still be pipes and concrete but there'll be colour and maybe a mural or two and lots of great clothes and accessories to look at.

Check back soon for more news!
Love, Ruck Rover
