Christmas Gift Guide: For the Ladies

Oooh err, do we have some delightful things in for the ladies in your life this year.

First up has to be these luscious new body products from Australian label Leif. They feature pure essential oils and natural botanical extracts, the hero being the unique and diverse flora that we enjoy in Australia. Lemon myrtle, lillypilly, kakadu plum, eucalyptus and macadamia nut all get to star in these beautifully packaged products.

They smell delicious and are fantastic on your skin. On offer are body cleansers, body butters, hand wash and hand balm. And don't miss the Body Duo - in a pretty box you'll find a matching body balm and cleanser for just $39.95 - that's a saving of $7.95 when you buy them in the kit rather than separately. And did I mention how NICE they look? Who wouldn't want to unwrap one of these, I say!

Little Little Odd Forest bags are always exciting. Featuring gorgeous fabrics, all different but all delightful, and a few different shapes and sizes, there seems to be a bag amongst their range to suit everybody. A bright and colourful clutch for your cousin, a large tote for your sister with the new baby, a satchel for yourself or a floral handbag for your mother.

The latest range of necklaces from Melbourne label Iggy and Lou Lou are worth getting excited about. Featuring upcycled porcelain from the designer's own collection that has been made into a pendant and hung on a sterling silver chain, these are something a bit special. Prices are $83 for the small and $135 for the large.

We still carry Iggy and Lou Lou's classic, all-the-time, petites range as well, if anchors, love hearts, cameras or animals are more to your gal's taste. See their full range here.

These hand painted, wooden flower earrings from Pannikin are also a bit darling, aren't they? They'll set you back just $34 and come packaged in a cardboard gift box.

And as always we have frocks galore in store. We can help you find a style and fit that's just right, but rest assured that your lovely lass will be able to exchange it if it is not quite perfect.

Christmas Gift Guide: A Very Manly Christmas

Don't know what to get the boys this year? Well by now you should know that we have the best range of tees around. Take a peek at some of our latest arrivals! There are so many that the hardest part will be narrowing it down to just one (or two). Most of our men's tees go for $50 and are produced in limited runs, featuring the work of some super talented contemporary artists.

A Polaroid camera would never go astray. Make sure you get some film as well because it will be a hit on Christmas day. It's an ideal present, really. Your fella will get to unwrap something awesome, and then have the perfect excuse to play with it, documenting the day as it goes. Brilliant!

Choose from the new Polaroid 300 series, above, which produces business card sized snaps (cameras $99.95 and film $19.95 for a pack of 10 shots) or a working, second hand camera with the classic large format photos ($135-$150 depending on the model and $32 for a pack of 8 shots.)

These socks are from the very stylish Swedes and one pair will set you back just $12. Choose from anchors, stripes or spots!

Or perhaps a belt will keep him in order?

Let's face it, every man needs at least one bow tie in their collection. These are $35 and are pre-tied with an adjustable collar, which makes life a little easier.

Merry Christmas, fellas!

Christmas Gift Guide: For the Kids

Sourcing the best range of Christmas presents is out job each December, not yours! We have compiled an excellent selection of bits and bobs that will delight those fortunate enough to receive them.

Here are a few favourites that we've picked out for the younger generation!

Stuf are a range of children's toys made from durable, hand silk screened canvas with a weighted, pellet base. They ring a bell when shaken and come in these super excellent styles. We have the bird family and the pirates! The large ones are 12" tall and are $30 and the small are 6" and are $19.

Wry Baby Attack of the 50 foot Baby Stacking Blocks are... well they're designed to be stacked! But also knocked down. Made from hardy cardboard and illustrated with images of terror stricken tower dwellers, you can give your baby a sense of humour early on.

Seven sturdy blocks stack to 30" high. (Baby not included.)

Mysterio Baby Tees predict your child's future! There are 12 possible futures, and what's on each tee remains a mystery until opened. Available in a 0-6 month old size, these are perfect presents for the new arrivals, that everyone will get a kick out of on Christmas day.

These tees are toddler sized for some very trendy little ones. Each of these Pinecone & Chickadee tees are available in sizes 2 years, 4 years and 6 years, and each are $30.

Feliz Nadvidad

In the immortal words of Boney M, 'I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas' and this year I've managed to get the best collection of Christmas cards yet, I reckon.

Rifle Paper Co

Rifle are a boutique stationery brand out of the US. Designed by illustrator Anna Bond, their cards and bits and pieces are super pretty, and are often based in hand illustrations with floral or ornate designs. They are made with paper from sustainable forests.

I love their postcard sets for a sweet Christmas note. These come in packs of 10 for $20 and are available in three designs: Seasons Greetings, North Pole and Night Before Christmas.

I admit, I've already wrapped most of my presents ready for Christmas. Having a shop means December is quite crazy, but in a good way! So I always aim to do all my personal shopping by the end of November. This is the first year I have almost achieved this! I've chosen to adorn my brown paper parcels with these Rifle Gift Tags. Available in Saint Nick and Winter Berries, they come in a pack of 10 for $13.

And finally, how good are these ornament cards? They come as a rectangle, but the recipient can pop out the ornament and hang it on their tree so your message lasts for years to come. Just lovely! These are $8 each, with Nutcracker (Happy Holidays) and Pine (Merry Christmas) designs.

Blueberry Paper

Blueberry are based in New South Wales and they produce cards on recycled paper. Their Christmas card pack will set you back $20 and in it you receive 2 each of 5 designs, all with an Australiana theme. Head to our online store to check out all 5 designs! Here's my favourite...

Lazy Oaf

These large square cards feature relatable illustrations by Gemma Shiel out of London. She's the one who designs the hilarious cards like 'Happy Birthday Idiot Head', 'I Like You Nearly As Much As Crisps', 'You are So Handsome (in the right light)' and many more. Well, it's only natural she'd try to make you laugh at Christmastime, too. Choose from Happy Birthday JC or Pucker Up Sweet Cheeks. Both $7.

We will be putting together some Christmas gift guides in the next week or so. Check back soon if you need some inspiration! Claire.

Collect your Free OnWilliam Christmas Cards

Starting this Saturday 1 December and continuing while stocks last, you can wander the streets of Northbridge collecting your FREE Christmas Card set.

An initiative of OnWilliam, and now in its second year, local businesses have partnered with a local artists to produce a set of cards that you can pick up just by popping into your favourite spots around town.

The card at Ruck Rover is by our favourite Lisa Max - oh yeah! You know Lisa, the one behind the stubby holders and key caps that we sell, and who also designed the ever popular 'For today I am a robot' tees, and the cat and owl cushions. Yes, we pretty much jump at every chance to work with Lisa that we possibly can.

So head on down to William Street this weekend and start collecting!

Open House Perth 2012: Love Your City

We were super proud to be included as one of the Love Your City destinations in the inaugural Open House Perth!

For those of you who don't know, Open House is an architectural event that started in London, and offers a chance to get inside some of your city's most iconic and interesting buildings. Places like the new Perth Arena, Council House and the Concert Hall were open to the public, and there were a selection of other locations that were included because of their contribution to the vibrancy of our city. Ruck Rover was one of those!

We had SO many people come through this weekend, including many people who don't usually come into Northbridge, which was really exciting.

Big thanks to Open House Perth Artistic Director Carly Barrett who did such an amazing job putting on the weekend and bringing Open House to Perth.
